Meet Fresh, a Taiwanese dessert restaurant, opens its doors in Fremont, California. The family owned company, launched in 2007 in Taiwan, has more than 700 locations worldwide throughout Asia Pacific, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, and the United States. Specializing in hot and cold desserts and beverages, Meet Fresh is committed to making traditional, healthful, and handmade dishes and drinks featuring fresh and natural ingredients. Located at 43337 Boscell Road in the Pacific Commons Shopping Center, this is the second Meet Fresh in Northern California, after a successful opening in Cupertino in 2016. Additional Meet Fresh locations are planned for Oakland, Daly City, Livermore, and San Mateo for later this year and early 2019.
“We are excited to launch another space in Northern California and announce further expansion in the Bay Area,” says CEO Johnson Fu. “California is such a natural fit for Meet Fresh - Taiwanese cuisine is not only very popular here, but we also share so many values when it comes to celebrating global cuisines and highlighting nutrition and healthy eating.”
The story of Meet Fresh begins in the City of Taichung in central Taiwan with Brother and Sister Fu, the eldest in a traditional agricultural family. “As technology and automation started taking over in Taiwan, my family remained committed to time-honored culinary processes and made desserts the old fashioned way,” say Johnson, the youngest brother in the family. “We launched Meet Fresh to share our traditions and these handmade desserts with our guests.”
Many of the ingredients featured on Meet Fresh’s menu are made in the company’s central kitchen in Taiwan, further emphasizing the team’s devotion to their product. Today, both Brother and Sister Fu still work in the main kitchen, sharing their work ethic, discipline and devotion to their product and company – creating a culture that is carried down to each location. With this tradition also comes Meet Fresh’s commitment to the highest standards and quality.
Meet Fresh offers innovative Taiwanese desserts including traditional ingredients such as taro, barley, sweet potato, red beans, soy beans, and grass jelly. The extensive menu at the new Fremont location features more than 150 items that can be served in a number of combinations – hot or cold and with or without toppings – encouraging guests to make their own creations. With so many selections available, even the visual menu doesn’t make the decisions easier, showcasing ingredients like taro ball, grass jelly, tofu pudding, purple rice, traditional tea, shaved ice, and fresh milk tea.
Popular menu items include the Icy Grass Jelly with grass jelly, taro balls, and grass jelly flavored shaved ice; Icy Taro Ball #4 with taro, taro balls, red bean, boba and shaved ice; and the Winter Melon Tea, a traditional beverage in Taiwan served with mini taro balls and whipped cream. Prices range from $3 to $12 and additional toppings (including sweet potato taro balls, ice cream, sesame rice balls, almond pudding, and more) are available for $1 or $.50 each.
The new Fremont location features 86 indoor and outdoor seats and invites guest to order at the counter or at several self-service kiosks. Meet Fresh is conveniently situated on the corner of Auto Mall Parkway and Boscell Road close to Costco, Target, HomeGoods, and the Century Theatres at Pacific Commons.
The company has plans to open 20 locations, both owned and franchised, across the United States this year and will continue to expand across the country, projecting 100 locations within the next five years. In addition to the new Bay Area locations, Meet Fresh is available in Irvine Cupertino, Temple City and Hacienda Heights in California as well as Plano, Chicago, New York, and Las Vegas.
